We’re proud to have contributed to the new "AI for Nature" working paper developed with World Resources Institute and Google.

Unlike previous reports focusing on technological capability, this report comes at the question from the perspective of what users want and need. The paper is grounded in conversations with conservation practitioners, researchers, data stewards, community leaders, and tool builders who are already working on the frontline of nature protection.

It highlights:

  • The need to broaden who participates in conservation work
  • The importance of more accessible & inclusive information about nature
  • How AI can broaden participation & improve access
  • Real examples of how AI is helping communities, citizen scientists, and organizations monitor ecosystems and make better decisions
  • The risks and challenges that must be addressed to ensure these tools are equitable and responsibly used.

At Vizzuality, we believe that AI should strengthen and evolve with the expertise of those who know nature best. When rooted in trust and collaboration, AI can expand access to ecological insight and help scale meaningful, nature-positive solutions.

A special appreciation to our colleagues Francis Gassert and Michael Harfoot for their insights, as well as Global Fishing Watch, iNaturalist, Wildlife Insights and Google DeepMind for their collaboration.
